UNCLE JOE’S MAUREEN  O’HARA STORY

By now the world must know that my mother was a Harrington from Charlestown. I remember the last time I saw my Uncle Joe, it was the Summer of 1977. He was 64 years old at that time I thought he was an old guy but  was young. Today, my 64th birthday is in my rear view mirror of life gone by but let that go.

Let’s get Uncle Joe and the late  actress Maureen O’Hara.  He once sent my mom a photo of O’Hara and him on a motor boat taken down in San Juan, PR. Of course, now that I am looking for it , it has gone AWOL on me. What else is new?

CLASSIC SAL WITH     CLASSIC CAR

I attended a great classic auto show over in Quincy. It was a fundraiser for the Quincy High School Hockey Program sponsored by the nearby Quirk Car Dealership.

Lots of funds were raised for the kids who play hockey at the school which was great news. However, while I was roaming around the car show, I found a 1948 Studebacker and thought if I were a car this is what a 1948 Sal would look like. Both of us seemingly have held up pretty good don’t ya think?

EVERYBODY HAVE A GREAT HALLOWEEN?

I know I did. I was over at the Beachmont VFW Post 6712 at a great dinner/dance deejayed by the one and only Alan LaBella who always puts a great show on.

This year like last year I dressed up as a”Charlestown Bank Robber” and was a hit on the dance floor too.

In the past, I used to dress up as a gangster. Stereotypes are often so much fun if fun is what you’re seeking. Got the idea from the movie “The Town’ and my costume made folks smile and laugh.

CONGRATS TO SERINA D’AMICO

Serina D’Amico from the North End is a player from the Charlestown Blue Diamonds softball team and she was the recent recipient of the Joseph D. Hayes Award for the 2015 season. This award goes to the player recognized as an individual who embodies sportsmanship, leadership, team spirit and talent .

According to those who know, not only is she a team leader but she has a good average at the plate too.

IRISH ROVERS ROVING OVER TO MEDFORD

The Irish Rovers are currently on their 50th Anniversary Tour and will be at the Chevalier Theatre in Medford on November 29. For more information, go to www.chevaliertheatre.com

P.S. By the way, this past spring I was over at this theatre in my role as an extra in the movies. The movie ‘Joy’ starring Jennifer Lawrence will be coming out on Christmas Day. I play a businessman walking an actress wearing the biggest fur coat I ever so. If they don’t cut my scene you should see me if not never mind.
