TONY V HOSTING COMEDY NITE TIME

Don’t forget Sunday, October 25 is “Comedy Nite” in Charlestown with Tony V hosting this fundraising event. Donations should be made out to the Brothers of Mercy St. John of God. Special guests this evening are Charlestown’s own Steve Sweeney and other funny folks including Improv Asylum.

Get your funny bones over to the Knights. Doors open at 6pm. Show starts at 7pm.  The event is to benefit Brother Francis Gillen, Brothers of Mercy St. John of God. For more information, give Moe Gillen a call at 617.242.3746.  The Gillen family says thank you.

ANNUAL CANDLELIGHT REMEMBRANCE VIGIL

Once again Townies banded together by holding its annual candlelight vigil in Hayes square recently. They came to hold candles to remember all who had lost their lives to drugs and alcohol and to give communal hope to all who struggle with his or her  demons.

Kudos to both the Charlestown Substance Abuse Coalition (CSAC) and Charlestown Against Drugs (CHAD). Once again this  Hayes Square event drew large numbers of folks candles in hand for lost loved ones.

SUMMER IS OVER, HOLIDAYS AHEAD

It is time to once again “perk up’ the shelves of the Harvest on Vine Food  Program. As the weather grows cooler and you’ve put your beach chair away until next summer, start your day in a positive way by helping stock the pantry’s food shelves. This call here is more than food for thought because there are real neighbors out there who need food for life. For more information on how to help, call the pantry itself at 617.990.7314.

“OCTOBER IN HAYES SQUARE”

I really enjoyed reading Father Jim Ronan’s commentary about life in Charlestown by just talking about his day, talking about the people who enter his life on his walks and knowing that every day we live is God’s gift. Sometimes I struggle on what to write here in this column. Sometimes I struggle for each word. However, when reading Father Jim’s recent short journey in the morning , I realized how much I and all of us need to take the time to appreciate a brisk autumn day too.
