The Boston Landmarks Commission (BLC) is celebrating its 40th year of serving the city and its residents effectively.
Established in 1975 to identify and protect Boston’s historic buildings, structures, the area and sites, BLC is the city’s preservation planning agency.
It reviews development and demolition activities affecting older properties, delivers public information and assistance relating to the preservation and archaeology, and provides professional support to the local Historic District Commissions.
Currently, there are over 8,000 properties located within the city’s nine local Historic District or designated as individual Boston Landmarks by the Commission.
