Voters Set to Cast their Ballots on Election Day Tuesday Nov. 4

The campaigns are winding down and on Tuesday, Nov. 4 Charlestown residents will join voters statewide in selecting our leaders in government for the next four years.

Gov. Deval Patrick decided not to seek re-election after two terms in office so there will be a new chief executive in the corner office at the State House come January. Candidates Charlie Baker, Martha Coakley, Evan Falchuk, and Jeff McCormick have been campaigning throughout the state trying to convey their message to the electorate.

There are other exciting races on the ballot as well for the offices of lieutenant governor, treasurer, auditor, and secretary of state.

The four ballot questions focusing on the gas tax, bottles, casinos, and employee sick days have attracted significant interest statewide. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has granted  casino licenses to Wynn Resorts in nearby Everett and MGM Resorts in Springfield, and a slots parlor license to Penn National Gaming in Plainville.  Voters will now have the final say – after years of debate – whether legalized casino and slots gaming will be coming to Massachusetts.

There is great importance attached to the decisions we make on Nov. 4. We urge residents to get out and vote and let their voices be heard in Tuesday’s election.
