Winchester’s annual Veterans Day Soccer tournament took place over the weekend (Nov. 17-18) and Charlestown entered several teams for the two-day event. Playing 2 games a day on Saturday and Sunday, Charlestown held their own against several highly rated soccer clubs and towns. Charlestown entered seven teams this year, almost tripling last year’s entries, including the BU10-1 and BU10-2 squads, GU10-1, GU 12-1, BU12-1, BU14-1 and a younger BU9 team made up of several players from the Majors and younger BU10 teams.
Overall record for the two-day tourney – 12 wins, 13 losses, 3 ties
BU10-1 Townies (3 wins, 1 loss) including 2 club team wins
BU10-2 Chargers (2 wins, 2 losses) both wins against Winchester teams
GU10-1 Strikers (2 wins, 2 losses)
GU12-1 Lady Townies (3 wins and 1 loss)
BU12-1 (4 losses) played in a much higher division
BU14-1 (2 wins and 2 ties) our only unbeaten
BU9 (3 losses and 1 tie)
Overall, not bad for Charlestown’s first big foray against stiff competition in tournament play.
