Joseph Noonan

Charlestown Resident

Joseph F. Noonan of Charlestown died on April 6. He was 75 years old.

A retired 40 year Dock Worker for the Charlestown and So. Boston Longshoreman’s Unions, he was the beloved son of the late Joseph M. and Mary (Harrington) Noonan, the devoted brother of Patricia A. “Patti” Noonan of Charlestown and is also survived by many loving cousins. He was the dear friend of Dan Mehigan of Charlestown and his many friends at Hennessey’s & Paddy O’s.

Funeral arrangements were by the Frank H. Carr Funeral Home, Charlestown. Burial was private. Nancy Anne Farland

Eastern Airlines Flight Attendant

Nancy Anne (Scullen) Farland of Blacksburg, SC, formerly of Stow, died on April 4.

A graduate of Boston College, she was a Flight Attendant for Eastern Airlines.

She was the wife of the late Kenneth G. Farland; mother of Spencer K. Farland and his wife, Beatrice of Sunrise, Florida and Allison F. Shorrey and her husband, Steve of Charlestown; sister of Joan Mosher of Alexandria, VA, and Dor Ehrhart of Ocean City, NJ. She is also survived by a grandchild, Sebastian Farland and by many nieces and nephews.

Dennis Murray

Of Melrose, formerly of Charlestown

Dennis J. Murray of Melrose, formerly of Charlestown and Old Orchard Beach, Maine died on April 5 after a long illness. He was 62 years old.

A tow operator for Murray’s Towing, he was the cherished son of the late Joseph P. and Eileen R. (Towle) Murray; devoted brother of Eileen Dillon of Medford, Michael Murray of Pennsylvania, Karen Paley of Melrose, James “Jay” Murray of Charlestown, Kathleen Locke and her husband, Patrick of Melrose and the late Joseph P. Murray, Jr.; brother in law of the late Frederick Paley; dear uncle of Jeffrey, Jennifer, Sean, Mark, Kim, Mike, Matthew, Padraic, Katy and the late John, Jimmy “Cricket” and Paul.

Natalia Massa

Charlestown Resident

Natalia R. (Fernandez) Massa of Charlestown died recently at the Sancta Maria Nursing Facility, Cambridge. She was 88 years old.

Born in  S. Miguel, Azores, Portugal, she was the beloved wife of the late Joao B. Massa, the dear and devoted mother of Manuel Massa and his wife, Augusta of Somerville, Alcino Massa and his wife, Dulcineia of Westford, Maria Dutra and her husband, Edward of Arlington, Donaria Theroux and her husband, Daniel of Tewksbury and Isabel Chetty of Charlestown.  She is also survived by eight loving grandchildren and seven loving great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were by the Cafasso & Sons Funeral Home, Everett. Burial was at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.  Contributions in her memory to St. Anthony’s Church, 400 Cardinal Medeiros Ave. Cambridge, 02141, would be sincerely appreciated. 

 

Basil Veinot

Of Chelsea, formerly of Charlestown

Basil L. Veinot of Chelsea, formerly of Charlestown, died on April 3. He was 87 years old.

He was the beloved husband of the late Genevieve E. (Martins) Kachoris-Veinot; devoted step-father of Thomas Kachoris and his wife, Elizabeth of Tewksbury, Joanne Demming and her partner, Robert Soroka of Chelsea, Patricia Duscombre of Pepperell, Genevieve Dressler of Purcell, Oklahoma, John Kachoris and his wife, Marjorie of Raleigh, N.C., Joseph Kachoris and his wife, Starr of Niles, MI and Marianne Cotta and her husband, Leo of Delray Beach, Fla. He is also survived by 20 loving grandchildren and many loving great-grandchildren.

Robert Burton

Of Andover, formerly of Charlestown

Robert E. “Bob” Burton, Sr. of Andover formerly of Charlestown, died on April 8. He was 81 years old.

He was a retired member of Teamsters Union Local 25 and a member of The Alert Club of Charlestown.

He was the devoted father of Kathy Riley and her husband, Richard, Nancy Murphy, Robert E. Burton Jr. and his wifem Patricia, Maureen Minichello, Michael Burton and Jim Burton; dear friend of Ms. Billie Buckley and her family; former husband of Judy Burton; loving Papa to seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; beloved brother of the late John “Joe” Burton, Louise Kelly and Phyllis Osterland and also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral on Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Frank H. Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Of Medford, formerly of Charlestown

M. Muriel (Campbell) Davis of Medford formerly of Charlestown, died on April 8. She was 72 years old.

A member of Aleppo Temple Shriners H.O.N.S. of Wilmington and the Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association, she was the beloved wife of the late John C. Davis; devoted mother of John C. Davis Jr. and his wife, Becky of Lawton, OK., Lauren Powers and her husband, Thomas of Bedford, N.H., SFC Kirk Davis U.S. Army of Ft. Drum, N.Y., Brian Davis and his wife, Coryann of Stoneham and Mark Davis and his wife, Heather of Medford; loving Nansters to Elaine, Christina, Melissa, Kayla, Cori, Jordan, Alyssa, Nicole, Makayla, Leah, Lexi and her great-grandchildren; Christopher, Hali and Gavin. She was the beloved sister of Daniel Campbell of Charlestown and the late Richard, Ralph, Lawrence and Steven Campbell. She also leaves her beloved dog, Nikki. Mary Hickey

Of Somerville, formerly of Charlestown

Mary L. (McGonagle) Hickey of Somerville, formerly of Charlestown, died on April 8.

She was the beloved mother of Eileen Doherty, Marie Cook, Philip Hickey, Maureen Fucill, Joseph Hickey, Robert Hickey, and Denise Iverson, and the late John and Patrick Hickey; sister of Ann Greatorex, Margie Carr, Sadie Fallon, Philip McGonagle, Eileen Fleming, Frances Carr, and the late John, Joseph, and Patrick McGonagle. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Her Funeral will be held from the John H. Sawyer Funeral Home, 329 Bunker Hill St., Charlestown today,  Thursday, April 12 at 9:10 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Francis de Sales Church at 10 o’clock. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in her name may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binny St., Boston, MA 02115.
