Mayor to Attend Cook Street Playground Opening

Mayor Thomas M. Menino will join Charlestown residents to unveil more than $280,000 in improvements to Cook Street Playground on Thursday, July 28, at 1:30 p.m.

Located at 15 Hill Street, the opening of Cook Street Playground highlights the Mayor’s commitment to the parks and open spaces in Charlestown.

Improvements included two new play structures, seating, lighting and plantings.  The playground was designed by CBA Landscape Architects LLC with community input and constructed by C. Naughton Corporation.  Funding for the design and construction was provided by the Mayor’s Capital Improvement Plan for $281,000.

As part of the Park Opening, the play structures will be rededicated to Charlestown resident William “Zeke” Marsden.  Mr. Marsden was a fourth generation railroad conductor and an enthusiastic member of the Charlestown community.

The reopening celebration will include refreshments provided by Hood LLC, the official dairy sponsor for the Boston Parks and Recreation Department’s 2011 park openings.
