Joseph Plunkett

Of Somerville, formerly of Charlestown

Joseph T. Plunkett of Somerville, formerly of Charlestown, died on May 27. He was 80 years old.

A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of The Somerville American Legion Post #388, a retired Member of Teamsters Union Local 25 and a former employee of McLean Trucking.

He was the beloved husband of the late Doris (Maine) Plunkett; devoted father of Edward J. Plunkett of Somerville and the late Donald and Eleanor Plunkett; loving grandfather of Joanne, Eric and Donald Plunkett, Jr. and great-grandfather of Kyle Benedict. He was the loving uncle of many nieces and nephews.

John Cottier

Sales Representative

John F. “Jack” Cottier of Derry, NH, died on May 25 at Lahey Clinic in Burlington. He was 65 years old.

Mr. Cottier was born on May 25, 1946 in Charlestown, a son of Joseph and Frances (Gallagher) Cottier. Raised and educated in Charlestown and Somerville, he was a graduate of Somerville High School and was employed as a sales representative for many years with C.H. Robinson Paper Company of Woburn and later with Lindenmeyr-Monroe paper of Billerica.

Members of the family include his wife of 40 years, Jackie (Boisvert) Cottier, of Derry, his daughter and son-in-law Julie and Reggie McDaniel of West Haven, CT., his son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas and Laura Cottier of Merrimack, NH, two grandchildren, Kayla and Jaxon McDaniel, his brother, Edward Cottier of W. Dennis, MA; three sisters, Joan Kyle and Carol Mahoney, both of Charlestown and Gerry Munden of Florida, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Barbara Foley

Worked for Johnnie’s Foodmaster of Charlestown

Barbara E. Foley, formerly of Charlestown, died at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on May 22 following a brief illness. She was 64 years old.

Born and raised in Charlestown, she lived here until moving to Revere in 1999. She left Revere in 2005 shortly after her late husband, Maurice B. Foley, died in November of 2004 and from 2005 until her death, she made her home with her sister, Patricia Copithorne of Malden. Mrs. Foley worked for more than 15 years, until the time of her death, as a clerk at Johnnie’s Foodmaster of Charlestown. She was a graduate of Charlestown Girls High School, Class of 1964.

She was the cherished mother of William H. Foley and his wife, Kelly A., and Maurice B. Foley, Jr., all of Everett and the devoted grandmother of Breanna D. and Brady M. Foley of Everett. She is also lovingly survived by her mother, Kathleen (Hindle) Duggan of Medford and was also the daughter of the late James Duggan. She was the dear sister of John Duggan and his wife, Susan, of Shirley, MA and Patricia Copithorne and her husband, Robert, of Malden and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were by the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, Revere. Burial was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.
