John ‘Jack’ Duffy will be the Chief Marshal of the 2011 Battle of Bunker Hill Parade

The Battle of Bunker Hill Parade Committee proudly announces that the Chief Marshal of the 2011 Parade will be John R. “Jack” Duffy. Jack is a lifelong resident of Charlestown. He and his late wife, Dorothy (McCormack), raised five children, four girls and a boy. They have 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is retired from the U. S. Postal Service.

Jack served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He is a Past Commander of James W. Conway Bunker Hill Post 26, The American Legion, a member of the Korean War Veterans of Massachusetts and the Disabled American Veterans. Jack is also an active member of the Charlestown Lions Club.

This year’s parade will commemorate the 236th anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill and will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2011 starting at 12:30 p.m.

Thanks to Lynn and Kevin Smith, we will be conducting a fundraiser at their Grasshopper Cafe located at 229 Bunker Hill Street on Thursday evening May 26 from 6 to 8 pm.

The Parade Committee is interested in forming a veteran’s honor guard. Any veteran that would like to participate should contact Arthur Hurley at the telephone number or e-mail shown below.

There will be a meeting of the Parade Committee on Thursday evening, May 19 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the American Legion Hall, 23 Adams Street. Anyone interested in assisting with this year’s and future parades is encouraged to attend.

The parade committee would like to thank the Charlestown Patriot-Bridge for continuing the practice of acknowledging contributions of $25 or more and the filling in of the monument to show the total amount of funds received.
