Charlestown shocked heavily-favored Hyde Park by a score of 5-4 to capture the Boys Under-10 Squirt championship in a rollicking, back-and-forth hockey “classic.”  Hyde Park had crushed the “Townies” earlier in the season to the tune of 11-0, cheering each score as though it were a New Year’s Eve celebration.  The excessive reveling only served to motivate the Charlestown skaters in the rematch.  Whirling dervish Micaela Sindoris and “one-girl-wrecking-crew” Charisse Flanagan popped in early goals and a relentless, smothering defense and unselfish pin-point passing attack allowed the “Townies” to prevail…Standout forward Brendan Collier threaded a crunch-time pass to teammate Ryan Fitzgerald, who converted it into the game-winning goal, as Malden Catholic posted a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over Weymouth.  Collier answered the bell again with a clutch goal and key assist in a 4-2 win over rival B.C. High sending the Lancers to the “Super 8” championship game against St. John’s Prep…Add these names to the 1970’s high school hockey players list: former Don Bosco superstar Tom Cullity, the O’Neil brothers (Matty – Catholic Memorial; Tommy – Don Bosco) and Pablo Rodriguez (Charlestown)…Congratulations to senior Brigid Roy, who was selected as captain of the St. Clements softball team.
