Patricia Ann Johnson

Charlestown resident

Patricia Ann (Morrissey) Johnson of Charlestown, died peacefully on March 12. Beloved wife of the late Kenneth F. Johnson, loving mother of Kristin Johnson and Jennifer Johnson, mother-in-law of Tony Viveiros and John Peitso, and beloved grandmother of Augustus Johnson Viveiros, Cecilia Johnson Viveiros, and Eliot Johnson Peitso. Pre-deceased by her parents Michael and Mary (Powers) Morrissey, her brothers and sisters Helen Kerns, Claire (Rainey) Leonard, Elizabeth Laing, Michael Morrissey, Thomas Morrissey, and Grace Szwarc, as well as her beloved niece Pamela Enos. Patsy is survived by many nieces and nephews. She loved and will be missed by her friend and colleague Dr. Richard Torelli, and her dear friends and fellow gardeners of Bolton Place. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, March 19 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Church, 303 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown. Margaret Harris

Of Worcester, formerly of Charlestown

Margaret G. (Cokely) Harris of Worcester, formerly of Charlestown, died on March 4. She was 93 years old.

She leaves two daughters, Barbara F. Rooney and her husband, John, of Worcester and Karen L. Thibault of Londonderry, NH; two brothers, Edmund H. Cokely of Portsmouth, NH and Kenneth P. Cokely of Brockton; a sister, Mildred T. Faherty of Naples, FL; six grandchildren; Kimberly and Kerry Donovan, Christina Rooney, John Rooney, James Rooney, and Ellen Oster and six great-grandchildren. She was the sister of three the late brothers, James, Robert and George. She was born in Boston, daughter of Arthur and Veronica (Holden) Cokely.

Sister Marlena Hurley, CSJ

78-year Sister of St. Joseph of Boston

Sister Marlena Hurley, CSJ, a beloved member of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Boston for 78 years, died March 10.

She was the daughter of the late Denis Patrick and Delia (Mahoney) Hurley; sister of the late Catherine Geagan, Louise Hutt, Gertrude Finlayson, Mabel Power, and Margaret Murphy and is survived by four generations of nieces and nephews.

She was formerly missioned as a teacher at Cathedral School, Boston, St. William, Dorchester, St. Andrew, Forest Hills, St. Benedict, Somerville, St. Ann, Dorchester; Holy Family, Rockland, and as Principal at Sacred Heart, Weymouth. Sister Marlena ministered as a secretary at St. Theresa Elementary School in West Roxbury for nearly 20 years.

Burial was at New Calvary Cemetery, Mattapan. Arrangements were entrusted to the Norton Funeral Home, Framingham. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Sisters of Saint Joseph, c/o Mission Advancement, 637 Cambridge St., Brighton, MA 02135.

Helene King

Somerville resident

Helene T. (Roach) King of Somerville died on March 9.

She was the wife of the late William J.; devoted mother of Daniel, Stephen, William, Suzanne, Kelly, John King and Cheryl Drago and is also survived by family members, many nieces and nephews, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Graveside Service was held at the Mass National Cemetery, Bourne. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements were by Spencer Funeral Service, South Boston.

Maureen Shea

Charlestown resident

Maureen J. Shea of Charlestown died on March 7. She was 58 years old.

The beloved daughter of the late Patrick J. and Margaret M. (Sullivan) Shea, she was the devoted sister of Margaret McNicholas and her husband, Tom, of Charlestown, Eugene Shea of Boston, Patricia Venezia and her husband, Mike, of Saugus and the late Edward, Kevin and Timothy Shea; loving aunt of 35 nieces and nephews.

Raymond Morris Sr.

Charlestown resident

Raymond E. Morris Sr. of Charlestown died on March 10. He was 96 years old.

A US Navy veteran of World War II, he was a lifetime member of Logan V.F.W. Post # 26 of Somerville

He was the beloved husband of 73 years to the late Marion F. “Fran” (Levine) Morris; devoted father of Harriet O’Donnell and her husband, Philip, of Medford, Janet Woods of Charlestown, Roberta Freeman of Revere, Raymond E. Morris Jr. and his wife, Judi, of Florida., Samuel A. Morris and his wife, Marina, of Charlestown and Philip Morris and his wife, Carol, of Brighton; loving grandfather of 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one 1 great-great-grandchild; beloved brother of the late Rita Swales, Gus, William, George and Victor Morris; beloved uncle of Paul Morris of Florida.

John Carroll

Retired Charlestown Firefighter

John M. Carroll of Salem, NH, died peacefully on March 12 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was 70 years old.

He was born in Boston, the son of the late Maurice and Josephine (Vineau) Carroll. He was a Boston Firefighter for 25 years, before retiring in 1993 from Engine 32 in Charlestown.

He was the brother of the late Patricia Eagan and Nancy Kelly, and father in law of the late Raymond Buote. He is survived by his beloved wife Ann (Noseworthy) Carroll of Salem, NH and his children: Christine Buote of Salem, NH, Jack Carroll and his companion, Kelly Munoz, of Salem, NH and Loriann and her husband Chris Miller of Pelham, NH; his grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Sarah Carroll of Danvers, MA, Ryan, Tyler and Jake Miller of Pelham, NH and his brother Richard Carroll of Canton, MA.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated today, Thursday, March 17 at 10:30 a.m. at Mary Queen of Peace Church, Salem, NH. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Susan Roy

Of Revere, formerly of East Boston

Susan (Selvitella) Roy died of Revere, formerly of Orient Heights, East Boston, died on March 11. She was in her 100th year.

She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Roy; devoted mother of Kenneth J. Roy of Charlestown, Donald B. Roy and his wife, Marjorie, of East Boston and Jeannine M. Nazzaro and her husband, Frederick J., of Wakefield; cherished grandmother of Sheryl Kelleher and her husband, Michael, of Sudbury and is also lovingly survived by her great grandchildren, Michael, Brendan, Maeve and Lily Kelleher, all of Sudbury, and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Margaret Cefalo, Mary Ward, Sara “Sadie” DeStefano, Helen and Vera Selvitella, Atty. Henry Selvitella, Joseph, James and George Selvitella.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, Revere. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to your favorite charity.
