Filming underway in Charlestown ‘War in the Pacific’

Pictured here is a scene from the documentary film that is being produced by the Charlestown Veterans History Project. The movie tells the story of the men from Charlestown who fought in the pacific campaign during WWII. This particular part of the movie will depict the many Charlestown sailors who served aboard ships during the Kamikaze attacks at the Battle of Okinawa. The film will also tell the story of the many men who fought on the land battles at Okinawa, Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal.

Shown above is Hobie Saunders (Retired Cmr) who portrays LCDR Alfred Brunson Wallace of the USS Cassin Young. Others in the picture are William P. Durette holding the binoculars, Robert Mackowiak wearing the talker helmet and manning the helm is Dave Blank.

Filming of the movie will continue into 2011 and once release will reveal the story of the “Real Heroes” of Charlestown. A future film will also be produced that will tell the story of the men who fought in the European theater during WWII.
