Margaret Ledford

Of Rowley, formerly of Charlestown

Margaret C. “Peggy” Ledford of Rowley, formerly of Charlestown, died on September 4 at the Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport with her family by her side. She was 84 years old.

The beloved wife of the late Francis X. “Buddy” Ledford, she was born in Charlestown on July 17, 1926, the daughter of the late Denis and Mary (Friel) Canny. She retired as a chemist for Gillette where she worked in the Research and Development Department and was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Rowley.

She is survived by her loving son, Francis J. “Frank” Ledford, of Rowley; her sisters, Mary Falvey of Dedham, Frances Maher of Woburn, Ann O’Brien of Tewksbury and Elizabeth Canny of Medford. She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews and numerous cousins including Father John Donaghey, SVD and Margaret Friel of Malden. Mrs. Ledford was the sister of the late Cecelia Sullivan of Malden and Plymouth.

Barbara Shannon

Of Burlington, formerly of Charlestown

Barbara L. (Olson) Shannon of Burlington, formerly of Charlestown, died on Sept. 1.

Born and raised in Charlestown, the daughter of the late George and Mary Olson, she graduated from Charlestown High School in 1949.

She was the beloved wife of 56 years of Thomas J.; loving mother of Donna Smith and her husband, Andrew, of Burlington, Stephen and his wife, Nancy, of Holbrook, Daniel and his wife, Carolyn, of Burlington, Susan Newell and her husband, Paul, of Westmont, NJ, and Robert and his wife, Terry, of Dracut; sister of Marie Gill and her husband, Andy, of Stoneham, Rita Butler of Charlestown and her late husband, Bucky Butler; sister-in-law of James and Theresa Shannon of Medford, Edward Delaney of Burlington and his late wife, Teresa Delaney; loving grandmother of 14 and great grandmother of four. She was also the grandmother of the late Shannon Newell.

Funeral arrangements were by the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, Burlington. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Winchester. Shannon Marie Upton

Of New Jersey, formerly of Charlestown

Shannon Marie Upton of Burlington, N.J., formerly of Charlestown, died on August 29. She was 40 years old.

The beloved mother of Lance, Nickolas, Matthew and Paige, she is lovingly survived by her mother and step-father, Linda and William Axt and her father and step-mother, Herbert and Carol Upton. She was the devoted sister of Erin Page, Jason Axt and his wife, Christine, Herbert Upton and his wife, Lori, Lynn Upton, Jess Upton and his wife, Becky, William Axt Jr. and Carissa Upton; granddaughter of Dorothy Nash, cousin of Trish Bailey and loving niece of the Upton Family of Charlestown. ‘

Helen Parsons

Of Scituate, formerly of Charlestown

Helen T. (Carroll) Parsons of Scituate, formerly of Charlestown and Dorchester, died recently.

The beloved wife of the late Foster D. Parsons, she was the devoted mother of David A. Parsons of Marshfield, Caroline Cassidy of Scituate, Dean Parsons of Braintree, Richard Parsons of Duxbury and the late Don Parsons; loving grandmother of 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; beloved sister of Margaret Sweeney of Somerville, Richard Carroll of New York and Virginia Kelley of Florida.
